ASA Sp. z o.o. had the honour to co-organize the International Third Age Conference again, this time in September (1-4 September 2010). The event was held at the University of Gdańsk, and in their free time the participants could enjoy the beauty and charm of the city of Gdańsk.
This year's conference was the seventh Third Age Conference. In the annual meetings the leaders from particular Polish towns and cities managing the Third Age Universities, as well as foreign guests could share their thoughts, problems and ideas for the future concerning the organization and management of the units for those who were born earlier.
Distinguished guests appeared in the Conference, among others, Mieczysław Augustyn, a Polish senator, who underlined the dynamics of the aging process of the society, and thus also the change of the social model taking place right now, which determines the need to pay even more attention to senior citizens' problems.
Paweł Adamowicz, the President of the City of Gdańsk, pointed out all the opportunities of using the latent potential of the senior citizens. Using their wisdom in social life is an indispensable source of knowledge for the younger generations, both in the educational perspective and in the shaping of the moral backbone and the system of values.
The organizer of the meeting – the President of ASA Sp. z o.o., Andrzej Skałecki, paid attention to the necessity of improving the senior citizens' comfort of life and health. The knowledge of prophylaxis and dietary supplementation is still scarce among this social group, which is the cause of their serious health problems.
Numerous attractions added variety to the lectures and discussion panels, e.g. competitions, an auction of works prepared during artistic workshops for seniors, during which paintings and handicraft products made by senior citizens in the Third Age Universities all over Poland were sold. A well known actor, Robert Moskwa, spoke about the necessity of taking care of one's security and promoted a self-defence programme for women entitled "DEFEND YOURSELF!". The "Jantar" Song and Dance Ensemble and Borys Somerschaf giving a concert of "Russian Romances" also honoured the Conference with their performance.
