ASA cooperates with Babie Lato [Indian Summer]

We are pleased to inform you that as of 1 June 2011 ASAbecame a partner in the statutory activity of the Babie Lato Association from Opole. The fundamental objective of the Association is the provision of comprehensive assistance to elderly and disabled people as well as traffic accident victims. It is a nationwide association, with particular emphasis on the Opole Silesia region.

Health, vitality and well being are very precious for all of us. In cooperation with the "Babie Lato" Association we propagate knowledge of health issues and actively organize meetings dedicated to health education, promotion and protection.

We are also concerned with the problems of aging and old age, the needs of elderly people, as well as their domestic and social situation. In our magazine "Appetite for Health", we have a separate section dedicated to these issues, and we also publish guidebooks concerning the proper diet for women in the menopause and elderly people, and we have a special portal for them - www.jestemwformie.pl

We show people aged 50+ how to take care of their health and physical fitness. We recommend various ways of spending their free time and institutions serving senior citizens, etc.

What are the most frequent locomotive system dysfunctions among elderly people, what should they pay special attention to, how to prevent the changes taking place in the body as a result of the aging process?

A lecture for students of the University of the Third Age organized once again by our company was dedicated to these problems. This time, together with Dr Dawid Bączkowicz - a physiotherapist, academic teacher, and vice president of the Babie Lato Association, cooperating on a permanent basis with the "Appetite for Health" Magazine in which he runs a section entitled "A physiotherapist's opinion", we went to Jarosław and Tarnobrzeg.

In his lecture entitled: "The locomotive system dysfunctions in elderly people" (20 June 2011 - Jarosław, 21 June 2011 - Tarnobrzeg), Dr Bączkowicz discussed the physiological changes taking place in the oseoarticular system: in the joints, spine and hips, and then presented the serious ailments that our spine is exposed to as a result of an inappropriate lifestyle, absence of exercise, incorrect position of the body, overweight and genetic factors. He underlined the symptoms which should make us alert and encourage us to visit a specialist, and gave advice what we should do in order to keep our joints in good shape for a long time.

The most important factor preventing the locomotive system ailments is prophylaxis. Already the ancient Chinese knew that prevention is better than cure.

Dr Bączkowicz stressed particularly the importance of preventive measures and dietary supplementation (Artresan, Osteovit) in the prevention or reduction of ailments connected with the locomotive system dysfunction.

In order to get rid of ailments or reduce them, in many cases it is just sufficient to practice appropriately selected exercises at home and use preparations strengthening and nourishing the articular cartilage.

Taking good care of bones and joints is especially important because for elderly people it reduces the risk of injuries and serious fractures enhanced by osteoporosis and the deteriorated general condition of their health.

We should take good care of our joints and bones, as a healthy body means also a good mood every day.

After the lectures, students of the University of the Third Age could obtain additional information during individual consultations. The event passed off in a very pleasant atmosphere and all participants received little pro-health souvenirs from ASA.

We would like to encourage you to read Dr Dawid Bączkowicz's articles, which are also available on our website in the Knowledge Database: http://www.asa.eu/baza-wiedzy
