The "FIVE MILES" RACE FOR THE COMBAT SHIP COMMANDER'S CUP held on 30 May 2014 in Gdynia is an example of promoting a healthy lifestyle in a completely unique place! The main objective of the race was the popularization and promotion of running as the simplest form of physical and pro-health activity among professional soldiers.
The race was held in a rather unusual scenery for runners. The route led along the wharf of the War Port in Gdynia. Th Navy organized the event only for runners with passes, but an exception was made for us and for our ASA Team Running for Health. We were the only participant allowed to enter civilians in the race. This was thanks to Daniel Kowalski, a professional soldier, the organizer of the race who is also a runner in ASA Team Running for Health.
Our Company supported the race and funded prizes in the form of preparations.
According to our runners' reports, it was worth running along the wharfs of the War Port and the war ships. For the seamen from the Battleship Division this is nothing new, but for us, passing the frigates, missile ships, corvettes, submarines and hydrographic ships moored there, was a rather unusual scenery for running. Additionally, after the race there was a unique occasion to visit the port and the ships, including the submarines.
The winner of last year's race Piotr Suchenia (the coach of ASA Team in Gdynia) had to acknowledge the superiority of lance corporal Marcin Chabowski, an athlete, one of the best long-distance runners in Poland and the winner of numerous prestigious races.
Olga Łotocka, a runner in our Team, was very successful - she won the third place in the classification of women. Her results significantly contributed to our team's good fifth place in the team classification. All participants of this unusual event will remember the race for a long time.
