On 20 October 2010 in Nysa, students of the University of the Third Age participated in a meeting with Ms Małgorzata Proszkowiec. The meeting was organised by the Babie Lato Association and ASA as part of the health protection and disability prevention programme. The project is co-financed by the Office of the Marshal of the Opolskie Province.
The Babie Lato Association of Support for Elderly People was established on 15 March 2008 in Opole. It is an association uniting specialists in many fields offering assistance for elderly and disabled people as well as traffic accident victims.
The Association's objective is the provision of complex medical, rehabilitation, nursing and psychological assistance to people in need as well as their families. The Association's ambitious objectives include a wide range of counselling, specialist physiotherapy in locomotor system dysfunctions, the maintenance of elderly people's physical activity, the implementation of rehabilitation programmes for people with locomotor system disability, as well as scientific, educational, cultural and promotional activities.
The Babie Lato Association unites physiotherapists, physicians, community nurses, academic teachers and students of these disciplines. Using various forms of therapy, such askinesitherapy, physiotherapy, massages (includingalso acupuncture and reflexotherapy), these specialists deal with the diagnosis and treatment of locomotor system dysfunctions, including in particular the spine dysfunctions.
During the meeting in Nysa Ms Małgorzata Proszkowiec, an academic teacher, manual therapist, member of the Polish Physiotherapy Association and President of the BABIE LATO Association, presented to the audience the most frequent locomotor system dysfunctions among elderly people and exercises recommended in particular illnesses or injuries aiming at the minimization of their consequences.
