More than 4800 persons participated in the fourth Nordic walking event organized by the "Neuca for Health" Foundation. The funds raised during the event were allotted for two pro-health campaigns dedicated to the elderly. ASA also joined the campaign preparing prizes for the participants under the motto: Novocardia – a friend close to our heart.
On 5 September a record number of the inhabitants of Toruń came to the start of the event in the New Marketplace. Earlier the participants had to register for the event. The first 2000 participants received a free starting package from the Foundation: Nordic walking poles, a T-shirt and a start number. After a vigorous warm up run by professional coaches the participants set off. This year, the route led along the Old Town streets, Philadelphia Boulevards, Bydgoskie Przedmieście to the finish line at the Toruń airport. It was 7.4 km long and it took the fastest participants 70 minutes to complete the race.
At the finish line, a family picnic awaited them. The partner stands enjoyed great popularity. There was a little amusement fair for children with numerous attractions, e.g. children could play on inflatable toys, euro-bungee or marry-go-rounds. GrooveCover band played music hits and encouraged people to dance.

It is a box with a special label in which important health-related information is kept. The box is to be kept in a fridge. In the event of any deterioration of the patient's health condition, emergency services reach for the Box of Life and the information contained therein helps them in the rescue operation.
An educational project for senior citizens. It comprises a series of lectures on health and prophylaxis addressed to people aged 60+. The lectures held in the centre of Toruń are conducted by renowned medical experts free of charge.
March every day
According to the World Health Organization, the best thing we can do for our health and well-being is to make 10 thousand steps per day - such distance is proof of proper physical activity and a guarantee of a good condition.
A grown up person's step is approximately from 60 cm (women) to 80 cm long (men). Making a 65 cm step, the distance we should cover daily is about 6.5 km.
The approximate length of a step can be easily measured - one has to walk for about 10 m at normal pace, count the steps, and then divide the distance by the number of steps.
How do you take care of your heart?
The question was asked in a competition announced by NUCCA on Facebook. The authors of the most interesting replies were awarded with gifts from ASA.
We hope that the set consisting of Novocardia, a water bottle and a thermal mug will help the winners to take even better care of their health condition.
