On 2 October 2011, in the Saxon Garden in Warsaw, a "Creativity Fair" was held on the occasion of the International Senior Citizens' Day, established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 1990. According to the United Nations, elderly people are people aged 60 or more, but this limit is entirely arbitrary. In Poland, such events as the "Creativity Fair" are usually addressed to people aged 50+.
The objective of the Senior Citizens' Day (we usually refer to elderly people as senior citizens) is the presentation of problems that people in this period of their lives have to face and the prevention of social exclusion of such people. It is a perfect opportunity to remember about our oldest friends and family members.
During the event held in Warsaw under the honorary patronage of the Polish Ombudsman and the President of Warsaw, all participants could learn more about the pro-senior organisations' offer concerning physical activity, education and health promotion for elderly and lonely people.
During this event senior citizens as well as their family members could get some free tests, e.g. blood pressure, cholesterol level, blood glucose measurement, a body mass index (BMI) test, a hearing test, and subsequently discuss the results and obtain free medical consultations.
A part of this year's International Senior Citizens' Day was also an exhibition entitled "Aktywni 50+" [Active People Aged 50+]. Senior organisations and Partner Companies presented their offers addressed to senior citizens and organised various workshops for the participants. All of the presented products and services met the requirements of the senior citizens, who are, by all accounts, a unique consumer group.
The promotion of a healthy lifestyle and recreation among people aged 50+ is also the objective of our company. ASA has funded the prizes for senior citizens in a competition organised by the monthly magazine "Let's Live Longer", and presented information materials concerning our preparations aimed at taking care of senior citizens' health (Novocardia, Sterolea, Artresan).
Over 2500 senior citizens visited the stands, and many of them participated in prize draws and competitions during this event. Their winners received attractive prizes.
Every year the International Senior Citizens' Day enjoys more and more popularity in Poland. This is good news for us because it is necessary to draw people's attention to the needs and problems of senior citizens. Dear Senior Citizens, we promise to be with you again next year.
