"Letnisko Księży Młyn" [Księży Młyn Summer Resort] is an initiative of Łódź Art Center and Gazeta Wyborcza daily addressed to all the inhabitants of the city of Łódź who want to spend the summer in the city in a creative and unconventional way. The project organizers have invited city holiday makers to spend the summer months in a specially adapted space near the historical Ludwik Grohman's villa, at 9/11 Tylna Street, which has been rendered accessible for the guests of the "Księży Młyn Summer Resort".
During the two summer months (30.06-28.08) the inhabitants of Łódź can participate in many interesting events held in the Italian Renaissance style residence surrounded by charming nature. Each weekend meeting is dedicated to a different leitmotiv. So far, visitors could talk about multiculturalism, sustainable transport, performance, photography, as well as visual arts, street fashion, board games and city games, new technologies, design, and - which makes us especially glad - a healthy style of life.
We have also been there! During the "Księży Młyn Summer Resort" event, on 21 August 2011 at 4 p.m., an exceptional walk started; it was organized especially for the senior citizens of Łódź.
This time we invited senior citizens to try Nordic walking which enjoys more and more popularity in Poland. The proper exercise technique in this system is extremely important; it has a huge advantage over traditional walking. Before the start, Ms Hanna Mazerant from the Step by Step studio presented how to use the poles and how to walk properly.
Using the specially designed poles we are not exposed to contusions, and we avoid joint loading and spinal loading.
Nordic walking is recommended in particular as a form of orthopedic and cardiological rehabilitation and in overweight combating. It is especially important for people who suffer from the oseoarticular system illnesses. A part of the bodyweight is carried by hands, which means that the entire shoulder girdle is involved in the movement. The additional supporting points also ensure better stability, which is of great significance in case of more difficult ground conditions, in particular for people after contusions or for those who are less fit.
During Nordic walking, the heart rate increases on average by 15-17 heart-beats a minute. Since the heart pumps more blood, our organism is better oxygenated. Consequently, our well being improves, our vitality increases and in the long run, the cardiovascular system is strengthened and the risk of heart failure decreases.
We recommend Nordic walking to elderly people as it is a safe form of physical activity combined with spending time outdoors.
The interest in the marching confirmed that this form of leisure activity may be used by everyone, regardless of their age and level of fitness: adolescents, adults and people with health problems.
Taking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life, developing one's hobbies or discovering completely new ones - are some of the benefits of this original event.
Almost 200 people participated in the Nordic walking in Łódź, taking place between Grohman's villa and the Źródliska Park. The first 40 participants received Nordic walking poles from ASA and another 40 participants - the preparation Novocardia. Thanks to the prizes funded by ASA they will certainly be able to take care of their health, heart and the cardiovascular system.
The event in Łódź passed off in a pleasant atmosphere and its participants stated that it was held in an active, healthy and very joyful manner.
The next edition will be held in September!
