On 30 September 2012, as part of the 13th World Heart Day organized by the Polish Cardiac Society in Kraków, numerous attractions, including free of charge cardiovascular examinations enjoying enormous popularity, awaited the inhabitants and visitors. Thousands of inhabitants of Kraków came to the Market Place in order to have their blood pressure and glucose and cholesterol level checked and to consult the test results with specialists.
World Heart Day, held annually, was created in 2000 to inform people around the globe that heart disease and stroke are the world’s leading cause of death. According to statistics, they claim 17.3 million lives each year and the numbers are rising. Apart from cardiologists and cardiac surgeons from all over Poland, our Company also actively joined the celebration; our preparations, Novocardia and Sterolea are intended for people who have problems with their blood circulation, blood pressure and high cholesterol level, and who want to effectively and safely take care of their health and the proper functioning of their heart and cardiovascular system.
In a competition organized by our Company on the main stage, Ms Mariola Bojarska–Ferenc, a well known and popular propagator of a healthy and active style of life, asked the participants whether a high cholesterol level increases the risk of the cardiovascular system diseases, what the correct cholesterol level should be and whether a balanced diet, physical activity and the use of omega-3 acids included for instance in Novocardia, have a favourable effect on the functioning of the cardiovascular system and the proper blood pressure. The participants of the competition who provided correct answers to these questions received valuable pro-health prizes and Mariola Bojarska's latest book, "The Art of Good Life" with the author's autograph.
In ASA's expert tent, Marta Palacz, MD, gave advice concerning things which are good for the heart and those which should definitely be avoided. Nurses from Telemedycyna cooperating with ASA measured people's blood pressure and marked their cholesterol level in blood. The long queue of people waiting for the tests proves the Poles' growing awareness of the important role of prevention of cardiovascular diseases in our lives.
The consultation and testing desk which was open all day round enjoyed such enormous popularity that we are already planning further actions; after all, we should remember about our hearts not only on holidays.
